2009 Winemaker Update

An update on our 2007 and 2008 vintages from Winemaker Allison Tauziet.

IX Estate Vineyard

This is a very exciting time for Colgin. Our barrel cellar now holds the wines of 2007 and 2008, two exceptional vintages all under the same roof. The 2007 vintage was a winemaker's dream in the making. The growing conditions were just what you'd order if you could talk to Mother Nature. Since day one in the making, these wines have exhibited amazing concentration and beautiful balance. As they age in barrel, not only are the wines gaining nuance on the nose, but the texture is becoming more unctuous and even more delicious. The 2007 may be a vintage that is ready right out of the gate, but it will also have the stamina to age for decades.

And to follow the stellar 2007's are the memorable wines of 2008. Mother Nature was again on our side this year. After experiencing a relatively dry winter, the vines in 2008 produced just a tiny yield, which in the winery translated into wines of extraordinary concentration and depth. Though they will be miniscule in quantity, the wines of 2008 are on track to be just as delicious and wonderful as the wines of 2007. Their life in barrel has just begun.
