I tasted a wide range of wines with Ann Colgin, her husband, Joe Wender, winemaker Alison Tauziet and COO Paul Roberts. The Colgin team produced stellar wines in both 2015 and 2016 that were among the clear standouts during the four weeks I spent in Napa Valley in the fall of 2017. LVMH recently acquired 60% of the winery, which, among other things, is a clear sign of the growing international prestige of Napa Valley wines.

Wine: Tychson Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: 2015
Drinking Window: 2020 - 2040
Score: 97
Tasting Notes: Colgin's 2015 Tychson Hill is rich and sumptuous in the glass. Ripe red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and new leather run through the 2015. A striking, generous wine, the Tychson Hill captures the essence of the year beautifully. Silky contours and soft tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. Look for the 2015 to drink well with minimal cellaring. This is a beauty from Colgin.

Wine: Cariad
Vintage: 2015
Drinking Window: 2022 - 2040
Score: 98+
Tasting Notes: The highlight among these 2015s, the Cariad is a total knock-out. Dark, vibrant and powerful in the glass, the 2015 offers notable energy to balance the bold flavors of the year. In this vintage, the Cariad has quite a bit more Franc than is typically the case, a decision that has paid off beautifully. I very much like the sense of energy here.

Wine: IX Estate
Vintage: 2015
Drinking Window: 2022 - 2040
Score: 97
Tasting Notes: The IX Estate is the most brooding and tannic of these 2015s from Colgin. Huge swaths of tannin enshroud the fruit in this decidedly virile, intense Pritchard Hill red. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2015 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. Even today, though, it is a stellar wine.

Wine: IX Estate Syrah
Vintage: 2015
Drinking Window: 2022 - 2035
Score: 98
Tasting Notes: The 2015 Syrah is a total knock-out. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint are some of the notes that race out of the glass, but here, too, it is the wine's stunning textural richness that stands out most. Full-throttle and intense in every dimension, the 2015 captivates all the senses with its magnificent, towering beauty. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, but even today, in its primary stage, the 2015 is phenomenal.
