Herb Lamb Vineyard, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

1997 Herb Lamb Vineyard, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Notes from the Estate:

Dense and rich nose, with roasted coffee, plum jam and cherry compote. Hugely extracted mouthfeel with a "mammoth of a finish," says Paul. Drink now through 2025. Service: Serve straight from the bottle, with care to avoid stirring up the precipitates.

Sadly only 400 cases were made of the 1997. The nearly perfect 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard was bottled in May, 1999, and appears to have recovered beautifully from bottle shock. Saturated black/purple-colored with a knock-out nose of blackberries, blueberries, lavender, licorice, and toast, this is a profound, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. It displays a seamless, velvety texture, layers of concentrated fruit, and a 45+ second finish. Am I being too conservative in not giving it a 3-digit score? Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.

The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard boasts an opaque black/blue/purple color, as well as a fabulous nose of wild blueberries, orchids, acacia flowers, smoky new oak, and creme de cassis liqueur. The wine reveals the vintage's tell-tale seamlessness, precociousness, and evolved style. Full-bodied, with extraordinary intensity, and perfect harmony among all its structural components - tannin, acidity, and alcohol, this wine possesses terrific fruit purity in addition to a prodigious finish. It is a spectacular, velvety-textured wine that should be the most evolved Colgin Cabernet yet produced. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2018.

This wine is aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels for 18 months, and bottled with no fining or filtration.

Release date, 4/00.
