Paul is the Chief Operating Officer for Colgin Cellars, a luxury wine estate that has been heralded internationally as one of the crown jewels of the Napa Valley.
From a seventh generation Texas family, he began his career as sommelier at Houston’s esteemed Café Annie, ranked by Gourmet Magazine as one of the top 20 restaurants in the United States. There he became the 48th Master Sommelier in the world, earning the prestigious honor of the Krug Cup—awarded to those who pass all three exam sections on a first attempt, and with the highest cumulative score. He was the sixth person in MS history to win the Krug Cup, and the first Texan to become a Master Sommelier.
From 2003-2008, Paul held the position of Wine Director for the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group, also serving on the executive management team for all of Chef Keller’s endeavors. Throughout the course of his career with Chef Keller, he earned eight Michelin stars, retiring from the restaurant business as the most Michelin awarded Sommelier in the USA.
In 2008, he was recruited by legendary vintner Bill Harlan to be the Estate Director for BOND Estates- Mr. Harlan’s property dedicated to producing the Grand Crus of the Napa Valley from several exceptional sites. In addition to being responsible for day to day operations of BOND, he worked extensively on Harlan Estate and consulted with the Restaurant at Meadowood.
In 2013, he joined his dear friend and fellow Texan, Ann Colgin, as the COO of Colgin Cellars.
