Naples Winter Wine Festival Friday, January 25, 2013, Naples, Florida

Gotta dance, Gotta dance!

Two couples will dance for joy when they wing their way west to Los Angeles for the spring finale results show of Dancing with the Stars.  The stars will align with this celebrity-studded cast across a variety of genres who are paired with some of the world’s most decorated professional ballroom dancers to compete each week in live ballroom competition on the ABC Television Network.

The lucky winner will be wined and dined in the Bel Air home of award-winning vintner Ann Colgin, and her debonair husband, Joe Wender. Linger over a feast for the eyes with a dinner that palpitates on your palate, paired with earthy and robust Bordeaux-style blends produced by Colgin Cellars. Your gracious hosts will search their private cellar for more spectacular wines to share as you dine. But save room for dessert – a dancer’s delight!

Feast your eyes on long, limber limbs and chin-up smiles. But you’re not watching any ordinary sultry samba or tantalizing tango, you’re the stars of this show – a spectacularly choreographed event that puts you up-close-and-personal with the uber-talented professional dancers from ABC’s hit series, Dancing with the Stars. During your exclusive dinner-turned-dance-lesson, you will gracefully move from one, two, three… one, two, three to a perfect “10.”

Speaking of a perfect “10,” ten years ago Ann Colgin crafted her 2003 “IX Estate” Napa Valley Red Wine from her vineyard that Robert Parker Jr. has said is “as close to a viticultural nirvana as I have ever seen.” Go big and go home with this Double Magnum of ruby red richness. The rugged and rocky terrain in the Pritchard Hill area of Napa Valley produces wine that is deeply pitched in color and aromatics, harmoniously combining intense flavors of dark fruits, mocha, dark chocolate and vanilla bean. And because two are better than one, you will also receive the splendid 2003 vintage Cariad Napa Valley Red Wine to add to your personal cellar. The word “cariad” means love in Welsh and you will love this ripe and supple wine. Like the 2003 IX Estate bottle, this Double Magnum will also be presented in grand style, beautifully etched and numbered. This sensuous wine is hedonistic in its complexity with deep red to black coloring, vibrant aromatics with exotic tones of black cherries and black raspberries.

Composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, these wines embody the essential character of Colgin’s hand-crafted red wines; a balance of richness and elegance, vibrant aromas and a long, exceptional finish. These blended-to-perfection wines may be enjoyed now or will age gracefully for another 15-20 years.

Insider’s Info: Airfare, hotel accommodations and ground transportation to Los Angeles are not included. Exact date of the results show will be determined after the Auction, but is typically held in mid/late May 2013. The dinner will be held the day after the results show unless otherwise arranged.

Auction Napa Valley Saturday, June 02, 2012, Meadowood, St. Helena, California

Colgin Cellars “IX Estate” Syrah comes from low-yielding Cote-Rotie and Hermitage clonal selections planted on the steep hillside slopes of the “IX Estate” vineyard.  While the composition of this wine is a blend of four separate one acre parcels it is a seamless wine that possesses both Old & New World characteristics.  Layered aromatics and silky tannins make this wine a monument of elegance.

The winning bidder will take home a “first ever” vertical of the first seven years (2002-2008) of Colgin Cellars “IX Estate” Syrah.  The beautifully etched and numbered magnums are made primarily for charitable donations and this vertical has never been offered anywhere before.  It will be a stunning addition to your cellar and will allow you to explore and compare the distinct personality of the wine with each vintage.

In order to compare the “IX Estate Syrah” to other great Syrah producers in the world the winning bidder and five guests are invited to a blind comparative tasting at Colgin Cellars.  The tasting will consist of two flights of two vintages composed of acclaimed producers Chave, Guigal and Chapoutier from France and Penfold’s Grange of Australia.  The blind tasting will be conducted by Soutirage, the Napa Valley based wine advisory firm.  Following the tasting Ann Colgin and Joe Wender will host you and your guests for a delicious dinner prepared by Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc restaurant which will perfectly complement the wines that evening.  The dinner will be paired with rare wines from Ann & Joe’s personal collection and Soutirage’s library, including some special 100pt. wines!

Additionally, Soutirage will donate an in-depth consultation of the winning bidder’s wine cellar anywhere in the world. Colgin Cellars and Soutirage together create the extraordinary blend of fine wine, festive hospitality and haute cuisine that any devoted wine aficionado is sure to love.

4 – 1.5 Liter Colgin Cellars IX Estate Napa Valley Red Wine (1 each: 2004 – 2007)
Dinner for eight (8) people with Ann Colgin & Joe Wender in the private dining room of Per Se in New York City, paired with wines from Colgin Cellars, as well as wines from their personal collection

This is no dream, but it is revolutionary – an amazing etched and numbered Magnum vertical of Colgin Cellar’s IX Estate Napa Valley Red Wine from the 2004 through 2007 vintages. The wines crafted from Colgin’s 20 acres of vines on the IX Estate are proving as profound as any it has ever produced; reflecting both passion and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence – the essential spirit of Colgin Cellars wines.

Described as “a viticultural nirvana,” the IX Estate Vineyard is managed with meticulous methods that have become the hallmark of Colgin Cellars. The quality and intensity of fruit produced from this special site yield wines that are rich and approachable in their youth, but display the hallmark aging ability. This amazing collection will allow you to enjoy the wines for decades to come.

This unique site, coupled with the highest quality vineyard management and neo-classical winemaking techniques, produces wines with distinctive personalities. Each wine has a sense of place. They are seductive, hedonistic and memorable, and this lot captures an amazing string of four of the greatest vintages produced – years where its reviews “averaged” 99 points and included two perfect 100-point wines!

The 2004 is a flamboyant wine, one with a “multi-dimensional, skyscraper-like mouthfeel.” Already amazing, its super-fragrant aromas of graphite, creme de cassis and espresso jump from the glass. The 2005 produced a blockbuster that is built to last, combining the framework of a great Bordeaux with the exuberance and richness of a great Napa wine. Both the 2006 and the 2007 are perfect 100-point wines; brilliance captured in a bottle. Staggeringly rich, complex, harmonious, yet impeccably well-balanced, they are twin tours-de-force in winemaking.

To celebrate your winning bid, Ann Colgin and Joe Wender will host the winner and seven guests for a dinner at Thomas Keller’s phenomenal Per Se restaurant in New York City, one of only six restaurants in the United States to be awarded three Michelin stars. NWWF Chef and Chef de Cuisine, Eli Kaimeh will prepare an exquisite dinner beyond compare; paired with a selection of Colgin wines as well as rare wines from Ann and Joe’s personal collection…all in the elegant ambiance of its private dining room.

Auction Napa Valley Saturday, June 05, 2010, Meadowood, St. Helena, California

Cariad, the Welsh word for “love,” is the name of Colgin Cellars Bordeaux-Style red wine blend.  The grapes used in Cariad largely come from vines that were planted in the mid to late 1980’s.  While the composition of the components changes from year to year, the blend is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.  This wine embodies the essential character of Colgin’s hand crafted red wines; a balance of richness and elegance, vibrant aromas and a long exceptional finish.

The winning bidder will take home a rare vertical of the first eight years (1999-2006) of Colgin Cellars “Cariad” Napa Valley Red Wine.  The beautifully etched and numbered magnums are made primarily for charitable donations and this vertical has never been offered anywhere before.  It will be a stunning addition to your cellar and will allow you to explore and compare the distinct personality of the wine with each vintage.

In order to compare “Cariad” to other great Cabernet Sauvignon based wines from around the world the winning bidder and five guests are invited to a blind comparative tasting at Colgin Cellars.  The tasting will be composed of two flights: 2000 and 2005, both highly acclaimed vintages around the world.  The blind tasting will be conducted by Matt Wilson and Gregory Castells, Principals of Soutirage, the Napa Valley based wine advisory firm.  Following the tasting Ann Colgin and Joe Wender will host you and your guests to a delicious dinner paired with rare wines from their personal collection and the Soutirage rare wine collection.

  • 3 – 3 Liter Colgin Cellars Tychson Hill Cabernet Sauvignon (1 each: 2003 – 2005)
  • Private culinary instruction for three (3) people with NWWF Chef Thomas Keller
  • Dinner for three (3) couples at the Tychson Hill Estate with Ann Colgin and Joe Wender

There are wines that are treasures. Wines whose very presence in a cellar inspires both awe – and envy. There are those wines, and then there is Colgin’s Tychson Hill; as clear of an example of New World Cabernet brilliance that exists. Set along Highway 29, the Tychson Hill Vineyard was originally planted in 1881 and restored by Ann Colgin in 1996, its rare Aiken soil and rocky east-facing slope has consistently produced wine of elegance and power.  If Colgin’s Tychson Hill has a flaw, it is only its scarcity.

From this vineyard rooted in history, Colgin Cellars presents an extremely rare vertical of three etched and numbered Double Magnums of 2003, 2004 and 2005 Tychson Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. A stunning trio of wines; these vintages from this “noble site” are all remarkable for the exceptional aromas of acacia, cassis and berry that soar from the glass. Dense and full-bodied, these are wines of enormous richness and length, each a candidate for wine of their respective vintage. Rare among Cabernets this profound, these wines can be enjoyed as early as a few years after release, or they can be aged for many, many years.

If you would like to expand your horizons in the kitchen as well as your cellar, this is your lucky day.  Three fortunate food lovers will spend an unforgettable afternoon cooking alongside world famous Chef Thomas Keller of The French Laundry. This remarkable opportunity will allow them to learn culinary details and fundamental techniques, while having a hand in preparing the world-class dinner that they and their guests will enjoy that evening. Ann Colgin and Joe Wender will host an exquisite evening for the three couples at the Tychson Hill Estate that will feature the signature cuisine of The French Laundry along with exceptional wines from their personal cellar.
