The distinctive geological features in our rocky, hillside vineyards define the soul of the wines. Minerality is the subtle nuance that takes you to the place where vines are grown–a sensation one feels rather than smells or tastes.

The Napa region is one of the most diverse places for growing grapes on Earth. In an area that is home to over half of the world’s soil types, there are specific sites that stand out as being world-class in quality and distinct in their nature. The combination of unique geology coupled with mid-slope elevations, and cooling airflow in concert with precision farming, establishes certain sites as the pinnacle of quality for the Napa Valley.

Soil: Weathered volcanic rocks with reddish brown stones and obsidian

Site: Western hills of St. Helena

Elevation: 400-500 feet (122-152 meters)

Soil: Volcanic stony soils with gravelly alluvium

Site: Pritchard Hill area overlooking Lake Hennessey

Elevation: 1100-1400 feet (335-427 meters)

Soil: Well-drained reddish clays with weathered igneous rocks
